To prepare for one of the biggest annual celebrations in the Shenandoah Valley, the Rockingham County Fair partnered with AlertMedia to keep all attendees and staff safe and informed throughout the week-long event.

“[Fair] organizers say nothing is more important than safety,” reports WHSV News. Making the fairgrounds a fun and safe environment for family has always been a top priority for Rockingham County. Last year, the fair constructed a new grandstand entrance to their grounds, building it with safety and efficiency at the forefront. And over the summer, just in time for the big event, Rockingham County Fair enhanced their security plan by incorporating an emergency notification system and service into their protocol.

The fair uses AlertMedia to facilitate important communications and notify attendees of potential threats, for example giving immediate notice and instruction if an active shooter were on site. If evacuation became necessary, attendees would receive an alert on their mobile phone. To stay connected, fair-goers simply text to subscribe to get important notifications.

Jeff Ishee, Fair Association General Manager, shares why mobile technology is vital to advance any security measure: “We are in the 21st century. We’re trying to stay on top of the technology and the digital world. PA systems are good. PA systems are excellent, but the new technology is we have to go digital and we have to do something similar to an amber alert,” said Jeff Ishee, Fair Association General Manager.

The Rockingham County Fair put on another successful and safe family fun event and AlertMedia was proud to help keep tens of thousands of people safe throughout the week. We look forward to partnering together next year.
